Many Happy Returns

Today is my birthday.

In honour of my recent revelation that - if I start looking after myself - I may only be halfway through my adult life and in fact I've never been better, I'm going to indulge myself.

Today I feel as if being older than most people I socialise and/or work with is a good thing. I think it worthy of some bullet points (Disclaimer: experience and what you do with it is the true measure, I have a sense of humour, etc etc etc):

  • It means I got here first.
  • It means I know my way around this place like the back of my hand.
  • It means I know stuff.

It means I get to say that Jet Li and I are cosmically bound and  so I'm cosmically hanging out with my Movie Husband, Zhang Yimou.

  • It means nothing at all.

    Drive-by posting

Quick. Not much time. Bath running. Stuff waiting. Here we go...

Unchocolating: it was filmed as a TV show by film and sound production degree students. V amusing and distracting. The closest I'll ever get to being on Oprah. I sat on the sofa in front of a huge table of chocolate goodies while the thoughts of 50 teenagers yelled,"Sad old woman who can't resist fattening food. Poor cow." Whatever.

Tessa, she was the therapist, waved a lot of Galaxy chocolate under my nose, we chatted and then she hypnotised me. It worked. I don't know how long it'll last but I have no desire for chocolate. It's not a strong, nauseous anti-chocolate thing. I just don't want it. The weird thing...the strongest feeling is that I don't want to touch it. She asked me to hold a bar of Galaxy and I couldn't. I was going to buy some for Charlie today but couldn't bring myself to pick any up. I hope it lasts.

I've been experimenting with spray varnish on the stones I painted. It's not really working. I think I'll have to brush clear varnish on to them but I'm scared it'll smudge. I've used acrylic paint on the pebbles. What can you experienced arts and crafts types advise?

I also played with carving stamps to brand the little bags I have for the stone sets. Don't like it. So I'm going with Plan A on that.

Glove puppies. Oh yeah, they're back. I'm warming up my puppy muscles on a birthday present for Evie's best friend. She (the friend) is very fond of Jonesy, who goes to nursery with Evie three times a week, so hopefully it'll be a hit.

Casey Cat is 18 years old today. He celebrated by going in and out of the back door a lot, eating a lot and sleeping a lot. He rocks. He is immortal. I've lived with him longer than I've lived with any other being; human, feline, canine or otherwise. Happy birthday, Handsome. The guys just voted you in.

    Paypal is not my friend.

Lisa is. Please support her if she can. She's wonderful, she's talented and she's doing this for all the right reasons.

    Laters, taters.

    Six of one

Let's keep it short and to the point(s) shall we?

    • Susannah has her new look website and blog launched today and it's very lovely indeed.
    • The planned meet-up for my blogging girlies and me didn't happen as two of us were sick and one was swamped in post-tipi adjustment.
    • Evie spent the day with Auntie P anyway while I lay on the sofa, took pills, watched the amazing and hypnotic Fur, then managed to pack a lot of pictures, photos and ornaments thus rendering our house officially 'temporary'.
    • The BNP still make me sick.
    • I decided to keep a separate record of my return to reiki practice (see the link off the navigation bar) because some of you may find it to be a bit too woowoo for your tastes (even though I don't think it's woowoo at all) and I like having a little bloggy corner to retreat to.
    • This is not acceptable.

So far it's Monday all over. Bring on 9pm and the wonderfully distracting and third series-winning Ashes to Ashes.

A Friday 5: first in a series of one

It came from Pen* and these are the rules:

    THE INTERVIEW RULES

    * if you want, leave me a comment with your email address saying: “interview me”
    * i will then e-mail you five questions of my choice
    * you can answer the questions on your blog {with a link back to my blog}
    * you should also post these rules, along with an offer to interview anyone else who emails you.
    * it would be nice if the questions were individualized for each blogger

    1. You are granted three wishes by a genie, what would they be?

Long life and good health for me and my loved ones.
The freedom and means to live anywhere in the world.
Global peace, love and understanding (as the song goes).

    2. Tell me something enchanting about a dog you've photographed.

This isn't really what you meant but I have to tell you about Ruby. Nine years ago I was about to move into a lovely cottage with an old stove in a big kitchen and I knew that I should have another (fifth) dog, but perhaps an old one who needed a home. Through a friend's contacts I rang someone at Battersea Dogs' Home and got through to the 'old dogs' person. They said they'd a dog in mind for me but I said,"She sounds lovely but... I keep thinking of a small white dog...Jack Russell X? Bit doddery, maybe a bit deaf and can't see too well, who just needs a warm bed some good food and a country garden to potter in while she lives out her days."

The woman on the phone went quiet and then said in a teary voice,"She's here. We'd given up on her ever finding anyone and were going to put her to sleep this evening."

Ruby fitted my description exactly. She came home with me that weekend and we all moved to the cottage. She lived another 9 months and I have many photos of her pottering among the hollyhocks in the sunshine.

    3. If you were the leading lady in a film, which one would you chose?

Ann Miller in On The Town. Watch from 3.10. Goddess. And more.

    4. What's the bestest, best, best, thing about being a mother?

Hugs, hugs and more hugs. Seeing this tiny person, who has already overcome so much, blossoming and bursting with potential and filling the house with her crazy laugh.

Evie. She's the bestest, best, best thing about being a mother.

    5. Fast forward 10 years, right now, describe where you are.

I don't think I can but I'll try... successful dog photography business...happy home with Charlie and Evie...supporting Charlie in his dreams and Evie in hers...doing more Reiki...travelling back to China with Evie for her first (second?) trip to Guangxi...a hugely waggie Staffie/Goldendoodle/Black & Tan mix...living a simpler, more enviro-friendly life...being healthy, creative, fulfilled and full of enthusiasm for life...having a great big lotus tattoo on my arm.

    Who's next?

    (See you Sunday, Pen!)
